Tech-stack data answers two questions in outreach: does this company use the tool I sell against, and what does its stack say about it? Both punish wrong answers more than missing ones. Telling a Shopify store "I saw you're on Magento" ends the conversation.

We looked up the same 20 websites, 10 SaaS companies and 10 online stores, in BuiltWith's Domain API and Amplemarket's company enrichment. For each website we checked whether the tool found anything in the categories that matter for prospecting: CRM and marketing automation, payments, email and SMS, reviews, support, analytics and ad pixels.

Tech-stack categories found: SaaS companies BuiltWith 83%, Amplemarket 78%; online stores BuiltWith 76%, Amplemarket 79%.

Where Amplemarket falls short

Amplemarket finds about as much as BuiltWith, and more than a website shows: NetSuite, Okta and Workday next to HubSpot and Klaviyo. But its list has no dates, so old and current tools look the same. It listed Magento, OXID and WooCommerce for one store, and Magento, Shopify and WooCommerce for another. Filtering on "uses Magento" would qualify both.

What to watch with BuiltWith

BuiltWith finds the tools, but it never forgets them. It still listed Magento for two Shopify stores where it last saw Magento in 2019 and 2020, and HubSpot for companies where it hadn't seen HubSpot in two years. It also reports signals that aren't tools at all: popularity rankings, CDN edge locations, server countries and currencies.

Ask BuiltWith for live technologies only (detected since its latest full crawl) before you filter on a tool, and drop the non-tool signals.

BuiltWith counts are live technologies after pipe0's cleanup. Amplemarket's are its list as returned, without dates, and include generic entries like "SQL" and "HTTP/3".

Using BuiltWith in pipe0

pipe0's tech stack pipe does both by default: it returns technologies currently in use, about 120 recognisable tools per company instead of 400 to 500 entries, grouped by type. You can widen it to the last 12 months or the full history. Amplemarket's company enrichment runs in pipe0 too, if you want its back-office tools next to BuiltWith's live data. The full results are in our BuiltWith review.

Frequently asked questions

Is BuiltWith or Amplemarket better for technographics?

In our testing, BuiltWith won the comparison. We tested 20 websites in October 2026, BuiltWith found a technology in 76 to 83% of the prospecting categories we checked, Amplemarket in 78 to 79%. Amplemarket listed conflicting shop platforms for 3 of 10 stores, BuiltWith's live data for none.

How much does a BuiltWith or Amplemarket tech-stack lookup cost?

A BuiltWith Domain API lookup uses one credit: $0.0495 pay as you go, and about $0.01 on the Team plan at $995 per month for 100,000 credits. Amplemarket returns technologies as part of its company enrichment. In pipe0, BuiltWith's tech stack costs 2 credits per company and Amplemarket's company enrichment 1.5 credits.

Why does Amplemarket list several shop platforms for one store?

Amplemarket returns a flat list of technologies without detection dates, so a platform a store used years ago sits next to the one it runs today. On cotopaxi.com it listed Magento, Shopify and WooCommerce; BuiltWith's live data listed only Shopify.
