An email verifier has one job: tell you which addresses will bounce before you send. Most verifiers get the easy emails right. The difference shows up on work addresses.
We ran the same 100 email addresses through six email verifiers. Fifty email addresses were real and the other 50 were fake: random mailboxes at Gmail, Outlook, and well-known companies, plus addresses at domains that don't exist.
The results
| Right | Fakes passed | Undetermined | Median time | 10,000 checks | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LeadMagic | 97 | 0 | 2 | 2.0 s | $18 to $50 |
| ZeroBounce | 96 | 0 | 2 | 0.3 s | $129 |
| Bouncer | 93 | 1 | 4 | 0.5 s | $60 |
| MixRank | 93 | 0 | 4 | 1.3 s | Not sold alone |
| Emailable | 70 | 1 | 28 | 0.3 s | $60 |
| MillionVerifier | 66 | 1 | 32 | 0.7 s | $39 |
A fake email address passed as valid is the expensive mistake: it bounces and dents your sender reputation. An undetermined verdict (catch-all or unknown) is the verifier declining to commit. Marking an email as 'unknown' is honest, but it leaves the decision to you.
All six providers in our test caught random Gmail and Outlook mailboxes and dead domains. Five providers confirmed all 20 real Gmail addresses (Bouncer marked one risky).
The spread in our assessment comes from how providers classify work addresses.
LeadMagic: the most accurate, and free when unsure
LeadMagic confirmed 49 of the 50 real addresses, and the one it rejected, every verifier rejected. It marked no fake email address as valid.
LeadMagic's email validation costs 1/4 credit. Email addresses that come back as 'unknown' cost nothing.
The cost of accuracy is speed. LeadMagic's validation takes roughly 2 seconds per check.

ZeroBounce: as accurate, and the fastest
ZeroBounce got 96 right, caught 49 of 50 fakes, and answered in 0.3 seconds. It comes with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 paperwork and an official MCP server. It costs several times what a budget verifier does, and catch-all results are billed.

Bouncer: close behind, with one bad miss
Bouncer resolves catch-all domains instead of hedging on them: it flagged 17 of 30 real work domains as accept-all and still confirmed 16 of those addresses. It got 93 right at half a second a check. It marked one fake email address as valid. The wrongly marked address was a random mailbox at hubspot.com, returned as deliverable with a perfect score of 100, while four of the other five rejected it.
Bouncer is priced at $60 for 10,000 checks – about half of what ZeroBounce charges.

Three more, quickly
- MixRank matched Bouncer at 93 and passed no fakes, but it is a data provider that sells validation as part of its API, not a verifier you sign up for.
- Emailable was perfect on consumer addresses and fast, but called 12 of 30 real work addresses catch-all. Turning on its deeper accept-all check made that worse, not better. More in the Emailable review.
- MillionVerifier is the cheapest by far and just as good on consumer lists. It called 18 of 30 real work addresses catch-all. More in the MillionVerifier review.
Which one to pick
For cold outbound to work addresses, pick LeadMagic or ZeroBounce. The test can't separate them on accuracy: LeadMagic is cheaper and free on unknowns, ZeroBounce is faster and comes with compliance paperwork. Bouncer gets close for less.
For newsletters and consumer lists, where almost everything is Gmail or Outlook, MillionVerifier gives the same answers for a fraction of the price.
In pipe0, ZeroBounce and MillionVerifier can run as pipes on every new row to ensure you're sending email to valid addresses.
Despite our small dataset, we're confident that a larger sample would not meaningfully impact the results or our assessment.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most accurate email verification tool?
In our test of 100 labelled addresses, LeadMagic (97 right) and ZeroBounce (96) were the most accurate, and neither passed a fake address as valid. Bouncer and MixRank followed at 93.
Why do email verifiers disagree on work addresses?
Many company mail servers accept mail for any address, so a simple check can't tell whether a mailbox exists. Some verifiers do extra work to resolve these domains; others return catch-all and leave the decision to you.
Should I send to catch-all addresses?
Only with care. In our test, sending to MillionVerifier's catch-all results would have reached 18 more real people but also 13 fake addresses, so roughly one in three of those sends would bounce.
How was the test run?
We used 50 real addresses of pipe0 users who signed in with Google in the 45 days before the test and 50 fake ones we generated, then scored each verdict against the known answer. Catch-all and unknown count as undetermined, not as wrong.
